EMERGING FASHION LABEL: SELF-PORTRAIT

From L to R: Illusion Flare Dress, Colour Bomb Dress, Panelled Pleated Midi Dress, Origami Wrap Skirt, Ruffled Up Panelled Dress

Designed by Malaysian-born Han Chong, Self-Portrait is one of the new emerging labels from the UK to watch. Chong was originally part of the team from another emerging UK label Three Floor,  but has since started his own line, which dishes out really edgy patchwork pattern dresses.

Okay, can I say how much I love it? The materials used are feminine with the use of lace & bright colours, but the strategically placed cutouts make the pieces one-of-a-kind. Perhaps you've already seen the Illusion Flare dress on none other than fashion blogger Aimee Song from Song of Style, or in an editorial somewhere. The aesthetic is totally in line with the trend of mixed prints (a definite upcoming post!) and cutouts, and reminiscent of the style of other labels such as Ong Shunmugam and Proenza Schouler. Mixed prints always remind me of those familiar Southeast Asian Batik & Peranakan prints. Having grown up with such patterns & prints from our culture in SE Asia, I think that familiarity always resonates with the local audience here.

Moreover, all the pieces are relatively affordable, from around SGD$300-400 for a dress.
I've picked out some of my favourite styles as above. Which ones do you like?

You can currently find the brand on Revolve Clothing.
